Hawaii RN license requirements

A researched starting point for applying to Hawaii Board of Nursing, including education review, English rules, identification requirements, background checks, and the NCLEX sequence.

Credential evaluation

The Board accepts qualifying foreign-education credential reports from TruMerit/CGFNS and Josef Silny & Associates. The report must state the program is comparable to an accredited U.S. nursing program.

English requirement

The reviewed Board application and foreign-education announcement do not clearly publish a standalone English-test rule; the CGFNS pathway may include English review. Confirm directly before ordering a product.

SSN requirement

The application requests a U.S. SSN. The reviewed official materials do not clearly state an alternative or whether issuance can occur without one.

Background check

A national FBI and state criminal-history record check with fingerprints is required; Hawaii publishes special instructions for foreign applicants or locations Fieldprint cannot serve.

Education review

The evaluator must establish successful completion of a nursing program comparable to an accredited U.S. program.

Documents to prepare

  • CGFNS or Josef Silny report
  • Photo ID with date of birth
  • SSN as requested
  • State/FBI criminal-history check
  • Certified translations/license verification if applicable

Verify before paying

  • Hawaii’s compact operational details should be checked on the current NLC map and Board site, especially for multistate issuance timing.
  • The accepted report type and any English requirement should be confirmed with PVL because the announcement names evaluators but not every product detail.
