Summary
Under limited supervision, transports soiled medical equipment, performs decontamination, cleaning, inspection, cleaning verification testing, assembly & packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instruments and equipment. Performs intermediate-level to high-level disinfection, distribution of processed medical equipment for the entire ANMC campus.
Responsibilities
- Sterile Processing Technician I P erform work under direct or general supervision, may only perform simple or routine aspects or the position.
- F ollows standard precautions to control the spread of infection while in decontamination, prep and disinfection processing areas.
- R esponsible for practice according to manufacturer recommendations for high level disinfection to include quality control monitoring, and assembly of instrumentation.
- Responsible for inventory management to meet operations in both the outpatient and inpatient settings.
- C omplies with quality control through routine testing and cleaning to assure processing equipment and instruments are functioning properly.
- Manages non-compliance to coordinate replaces and service.
- I nspects and verifies instruments and equipment function properly.
- Submits work orders for equipment and maintenance, repair, or replacement, and removes defective equipment from service.
- P erforms quality assurance monitoring for all sterilized products before instrumentation is released for patient care.
- Makes decisions for release of instrumentation based on industry standards.
- P articipates in maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.
- Responsible for productivity reports.
- M aintains a clean and organized work area.
- Communicates appropriately using good interpersonal skills.
- P erforms other duties as assigned.
- S terile Processing Technician II P erforms all duties of the “Sterile Processing Technician I” M entors trainees.
- S terile Processing Technician III P erforms all duties of the “Sterile Processing Technician II” D irects and assists in the daily task assignments for completion of work each day.
- A ssures that inventory activities and reports are monitored weekly.
