Position Summary
Provides planned, skilled nursing care for patients in the critical period of the ED services. Provides continuous patient surveillance for early recognition and immediate response to medical or surgical complications that may arise in any patient condition
Position Education/ Qualifications
- High School/GED required Graduate of accredited school of nursing required. BSN preferred.
- Current registered nurse’s license in the State of Texas required
- Current BLS certification ACLS and PALS certification within 3 months of hire TNCC Audit within 12 months of hire preferred ENPC Audit within 12 months of hire preferred Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues. Good written and verbal communication skills required. Ability to read, write and speak English required Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians Prefer hospital experience
Job Knowledge/Experience
- • One ( 1 ) – two ( 2 ) years of Emergency Room experience preferred.
- Require constant and frequent judgment and response, occasionally in response to disasters or emergencies, actual events or drills.
- Exhibits tact, enthusiasm, and patience.
- Must have excellent customer service skills.
- High degree of competency/experience in general.
- Requires good communication and organizational skills.
- Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment
Position Responsibilities
- Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practice Ensures that care is delivered to each patient in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Texas, and ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice. Supports the philosophy, goals and objectives of DHR and the department.
- Provides effective and efficient patient care management.
- Demonstrates strong and effective managerial techniques/skills in established lines of authority.
- Maintains professional competence by participating in continuing education and other learning experiences. Effectively organizes time, equipment, supplies and personnel for management of the ED. Performs safe and individualized nursing care for the patient in the ED area. Performs thorough ED patient assessment prior to discharge of the patient. Adheres to hospital/unit policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines. Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician.
- Demonstrates ability to adapt to varied age-specific patient populations. Supports and promotes excellence in customer/guest relations. Supports and promotes the organization’s Infection Control Program. Supports and promotes the organization’s Safety Program. Supports and promotes the organization’s Risk Management Program.

Customer Service
Provide excellent customer service to all DHR customers. All employees are required to attend the DHR C.A.R.E.S program which outlines the Customer Service Principals including: Commitment, Accountability, Respect, Excellence and Service.

The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirement relative to his or her age.

- Working Conditions : The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise.
- There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
- The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.
