Job Description The Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) is a licensed practitioner responsible for providing comprehensive orthopedic care in collaboration with the supervising orthopedic surgeon. The APP assists in the operating room, manages inpatient and outpatient orthopedic care, conducts patient evaluations, develops treatment plans, coordinates care, and provides patient education in accordance with state and federal regulations, organizational policies, and established standards of care. SHIFT & SCHEDULE Full Time Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Additional call responsibilities as assigned ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS • Clinical management is conducted in collaboration with the supervising orthopedic surgeon and multidisciplinary healthcare team. • Assist orthopedic surgeon in the operating room as First Assist during surgical procedures. • Perform pre-operative and post-operative patient evaluations and assessments. • Conduct daily inpatient rounds, evaluate patient progress, and communicate treatment plans with patients, families, nursing staff, and consulting providers. • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat orthopedic conditions in the clinic setting under the direction of the supervising physician. • Order, interpret, and communicate laboratory, imaging, and diagnostic test results. • Develop and implement treatment plans, including medications, injections, splinting, bracing, casting, wound care, and rehabilitation recommendations. • Perform and document postoperative follow-up visits, wound evaluations, suture/staple removal, and fracture care management. • Coordinate patient care across inpatient, outpatient, surgical, rehabilitation, and ancillary service settings. • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, surgical procedures, postoperative care, and recovery expectations. • Complete timely and accurate medical documentation within the electronic health record. • Assist with call coverage, including evaluation and management of orthopedic consults, urgent patient concerns, and hospital-based orthopedic issues as assigned. • Collaborate with clinic staff, surgery scheduling, therapy services, hospital departments, and referring providers to ensure continuity of care. • Maintain compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program. • Master's degree or higher and licensed as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Texas. • Current Physician Assistant licensure or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Texas. • Current national certification as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or ability to obtain within established timeframe. • Orthopedic, surgical, sports medicine, trauma, or first assist experience preferred. • Computer skills and proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. • Eligible for hospital privileges. • First Assist certification preferred or willingness to obtain if required by specialty.
