Job Description Performs the essential duties and responsibilities and the primary functions of a Sterile Processing Tech. The Lead Sterile Processing Tech serves as a teamwork leader and is responsible for assuring the task assignments are completed. The Lead Sterile Processing Tech is involved with training and development of employees in the department. Responsible for promoting teamwork with physicians, Operating Room staff and all areas served by Sterile Processing. SHIFT AND SCHEDULE Full Time, 6:30am-3:00pm, With On Call Requirements ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS Trains and orients all new employees to the department and provides input to the SPD Supervisor for the evaluation of staff members. Assumes a defined portion of the responsibility of ordering Sterile Processing supplies and places special orders within the MMIS upon request. Operates all required equipment and machinery accurately and safely. Prepares, assembles, and sterilizes instruments and supplies according to parameters of sterilization in accordance with the Department of Health, DNV, OSHA, CDC, AAMI, and AORN. Cross trains and is proficient in all shifts of Sterile Processing. Maintains knowledge of instrument sets and the ability to identify all different types of instrumentation across all surgical service lines. Responsible for forming and prioritizing the time, place and sequence of actions to be taken on any given workday. Unusual problems or proposed deviation from guidelines, practices or precedents must be discussed with the SPD Supervisor before any action is taken. Monitors surgery schedule daily in order to anticipate instrument needs for schedule, add-on and emergency procedures. Maintains appropriate sterilization records, and monitors quality control and infection control standards. Provide asset management and support of surgical instruments and trays belonging to or consigned to the facility. Adheres to Standard Precautions as appropriate, which may include: the use of protective barriers as appropriate (e.g. gloves, masks, gowns, pocket masks, and/or safety glasses) while handling and disposing of infectious waste. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Must maintain CRCST certification and/or obtain CRCST certification within the first year of employment. Required to complete twelve (12) hours of continuing education hours annually for Advanced Sterile Processing Certification. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The individual must be able to: Stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, see, speak and hear. Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. for clinical staff and to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff. The individual must use an assisted-lift device or get another individual(s) to assist with the lift that is over these maximum limits.
