Plans, supervises and evaluates patient care and nursing personnel of a specific nursing unit on a 24-hour basis. In compliance with the Philosophy of the Department of Nursing, will be responsible for operations of a specific nursing unit to ensure quality patient care, competent and responsible personnel management and cost efficient and effective utilization of unit resources. Serves as a mentor and role model for staff. Responsible to ensure department aligns to Hospital and Nursing strategic plan staff in UMC initiatives. Has a working knowledge of organizational and nursing policies. JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: • Proficient level of clinical competence in assigned clinical area • Completion of all required education activities • Human Resources Management o Recruitment process/In-processing o Performance Evaluations o Retention of staff/Engagement o Resignation/Termination/Disciplinary Issues o O3 Meetings • Quality Management o Patient Safety o Work Place Safety o DNV Readiness o Evidence-based NDNQI practice o Nursing Sensitive Indicators • Leadership o Employee Satisfaction o Professional Development o Succession Planning o Coaching and Mentoring o Ethics • Patient Experience Best Practices o Unit rounding, real-time feedback and problem resolution. Promote staff certifications. Allow scheduling considerations for those pursuing continuing education. Identify high performers and provide opportunities for growth( i.e. pathways to leadership, conference attendance, level 5 leadership, committee participation). Adheres to responses timelines set forth by compliance personnel. Golden Hour Rounding, service recovers, high/middle/low, review and share patient comments and scores, etc. Respond within 7 days to RL reports. • Participates in UMC Committee Structure o Sit on hospital-wide committee or initiative o Presets information at NDC and Leadership Council o Conducts 10 staff meetings/year o Attends NDC 2/month o Attends Leadership Council 1/month • Finance o Budget Process o Conduct and check payroll o Variance Analysis per pay period EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing • Master of Science degree in Nursing required • 5 years professional nursing experience • 2 years of experience in Oncology preferred • Previous leadership experience required REQUIRED LICENSURES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS: Current RN licensure from Texas State Board of Nursing or holds a recognized compact state licensure. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Age specific knowledge is required when needed for appropriate patient care. Current knowledge of regulatory standards appropriate for area of responsibility, i.e. CMS, DNV, TDHHS etc... Must demonstrate a working knowledge of leadership and management skills. INTERACTION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND OTHER RELATIONSHIPS: This position must interact closely with medical staff and other ancillary departments in order to facilitate a quality multidisciplinary approach to patient care PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES: Work is of medium demand; walking, sitting and standing most of the time while on duty. Occasional lifting of patients with assistance is required. Adequate hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills required. Talking and hearing is essential in instructing and supervising of nursing personnel and in receiving doctor's orders and patient's condition reports. Near visual acuity required to work with charts and records and to observe patients. ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in a well-lighted, heated and ventilated building. Hours may vary to accommodate needs in the department as prescribed by the philosophy of the hospital. Exposure to blood borne pathogens is high risk.
