Position Summary
Perform selected nursing and administrative/clerical duties that assist in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management under the direction of a physician. These duties are delegated in relation to the individual's degree of training, in accordance with the objectives and policies of the organization and respective state laws governing such action and activities. Coordinates the scheduling of procedures, patient appointments, verification of insurance, and other clerical duties to meet the needs of the patient, physicians, and practice.

Qualifications
- • High School/GED preferred.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- BLS certification required, or must be obtained within 30 days of hire Position requires travel, valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance are required Bilingual – English/Spanish.
Job Knowledge/Experience
- • One (1) year experience in clinical setting most desirable.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Computer skills required with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
- Good written and verbal communication skills required.
Position Responsibilities
- Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices. Record patients' medical history, vital statistics and information such as test results in medical records. Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean. Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height. Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies. Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician. Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician. Assist the physician in the room as needed. Translate for patient/physician as needed. Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets and physicians' instructions to patients. Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments and materials or performing such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures. Collect blood, tissue or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing. Verifies insurance and obtains authorizations as needed Schedules procedures according to policies, nursing and department staff availability, patient needs, and physician’s block time. Coordinates schedule assessing time and equipment availability, identifies conflicts and adjusts schedule as needed. Accurately prepares and facilitates daily completion of the schedule for timely distribution
- Follows procedure for notification of changes in the schedule (e.g. cancellation, no show or rescheduled appt).
- Maintains and protects each patient’s right to confidentiality. Answers telephone and intercom courteously and in a pleasant voice. Assumes clerical duties and responsibilities as necessary. Other duties as assigned.

- Working Conditions: The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise.
- There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
- The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.

- Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids).
