Position Summary for RN: Functions as a staff nurse under the guidance and supervision of an experience R.N.# Performs routine patient care assignments and carries out established nursing procedures utilizing the nursing process. #Position Summary for LVN: Functions as a direct patient care giver on an assigned shift under the supervision of an R.N. Performs routine patient care assignments and carries out established nursing procedures within the Scope of Practice of an LVN. Education: Hold a current Texas permit or license as a Registered Nurse (BSN preferred)#or holds a current Texas permit or license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.### Training and Experience: RN: 1. One year experience in acute care setting preferred. 2. Current BLS certification required. 3. Successful completion of hospital and nursing orientation within 3 months of hire. 4. ACLS certifications within 6 months of hire or transfer to department. 5. PALS certification within 6 months of hire or transfer to department 6. EKG course within one year of hire or transfer to department. 7. Complete the following competencies within 3 months of hire or transfer to department: # Lab order entry # Documentation # IV therapy # Unit safety # Body substance isolation # Handling controlled substances # Role in Code Blue # Admitting patients to the unit 8. Outpatient PACU staff: # Understanding anesthesia agents # Understanding reversal agents # Planning care of the patient # Implementation of care # Arrythmia recognition # Role in Code Blue # Pacemakers # Respiratory needs of patients # Neurological system # Musculoskeletal system # Medication decision making # PACU equipment # Evaluation of care LVN One year experience in acute care setting preferred. 2.
