Position Summary: Functions as a staff nurse under the guidance and supervision of an experienced R.N.# Performs routine patient care assignments and carries out established nursing procedures utilizing the nursing process. Education: Hold a current Texas permit or license as a Registered Nurse.# Current BLS required upon hire or transfer to department.# PALS certification required within 6 months of hire or transfer to department.# BSN preferred. B. Training and Experience: 1. Infusion Service nurses require a minimum 1-year appropriate experience as a registered nurse.# Acute care setting is preferred. 2. Successful completion of general and nursing orientation within 3 months of hire. 3. Complete the following competencies within 3 months of hire or transfer: a. Unit Orientation b. Unit Safety c. Attendance requirements d. Demonstrate Nursing Process elements: # Assessment # Diagnosis # Planning # Intervention # Evaluation e. Appropriate documentation and chart review f. Demonstrate ability to analyze lab results appropriately g. Demonstrate appropriate steps required for safe administration and handling of chemotherapeutic agents h. Proper patient preparation (diagnostic studies, perioperative, teaching, permits and consents i. Age-specific care j. Body Substance Isolation k. Blood and Blood Component Administration l. Participation in Code Blue m. Restraint Use 4. Demonstrates knowledge of various VADS (PICCS, Groshongs, Port-a-caths, Pass Ports) 5. Attends appropriate PICC/Midline training sessions within 6 months of hire. 6. Demonstrates technical skills necessary for successful placement of PICC lines. Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions: A. Ability to perform: 1. Heavy lifting 2. Sustained standing and walking 3. Work under stress 4. Varied work hours and shifts B.
