Position Summary
Bone Density Tech II (LMRT) is responsible for performing diagnostic bone densitometry procedures in a safe, timely, and accurate manner with a high level of accuracy, ensuring compliance with physician orders, regulatory requirements, and departmental protocols. This role is responsible for proper patient identification, positioning, and image acquisition to ensure diagnostic quality. Bone Density Tech II (LMRT) is responsible for collaborating with radiologists and team members to support efficient and patient-centered care.
This role includes responsibility for performing and documenting quality control tests to maintain optimal equipment performance in accordance with department guidelines. As a licensed LMRT, the Bone Density Tech II (LMRT) must be able and willing to assist in other areas of the department or facilities as needed and perform radiologic procedures within their LMRT scope of practice.
Position Education/ Qualifications
- • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, required.
- Current state certification as LMRT (i.e.
- Texas Medical Board), required.
- American Heart Association BLS certification, required.
- Must be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
- Secretarial experience and organizational skills are necessary.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, required.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English required.
- Spanish preferred.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians.
- Computer knowledge, required.
Job Knowledge/Experience
- • At least two (2) years in a healthcare experience field with direct patient care, preferred.
- Able to demonstrate a high degree of competency and experience with bone densitometry procedures.
- Demonstrate accuracy, and the ability to closely follow established procedures.
- Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
- Requires working with frequent interruptions.
- Must project a professional image.
Position Responsibilities
- • Promote the facility's mission, vision, and values by effectively communicating them to others.
- Consider mission, vision, and values in developing services, standards and practices Prepare and set up necessary supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures.
- Able to operate all appropriate clinical equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Perform and maintain logs on quality control and maintenance on equipment.
- Responsible for the care and cleanliness of equipment, supplies, and work area.
- Responsible for performing all bone densitometry exams, and x-rays when needed, in a timely manner.
- Perform all bone densitometry and x-ray procedures according to training and protocols, including DEXA research studies, optimizing imaging examinations to use only the radiation necessary by using ALARA principles to produce diagnostic quality images.
- Accurately comprehends and interprets verbal orders and directions.
- Provide the safest and best patient care prior to, during, and after procedure.
- Position patient to obtain the optimal scan, while ensuring maximum radiation protection and following the ALARA principle – as low as reasonably achievable.
- Able to perform the necessary functions on the facility's computer systems and software programs.
- Ensure that all exams are ordered, performed, and charged accurately in PACS and RIS systems daily.
- Maintain dressing and bone densitometry rooms fully stocked with supplies and linen.
- Responsible for assisting technologists with other duties during downtime (i.e. patient calls, scanning documents, stocking, assessments).
- Maintain Texas Department of Health (TDH), American College of Radiology (ACR), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and Joint Commission (JC) standards.
- Complete and update all employment requirements, including employer required continuing education (i.e.
- HealthStream), Employee Health, Employee Competencies, Licenses, and Credentials.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Working Conditions: The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise.
- There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
- The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.
