Summary

The Alaska Native Science & Engineering Program (ANSEP) through the University of Alaska is partnering with ANTHC to employ qualifying ANSEP students for an internship of seven (7) to ten (10) weeks during the summer. T he professional internship offers opportunities for engineering and science students to work in the area(s) of: comprehensive medical services at the Alaska Native Medical Center, wellness programs, disease research and prevention, rural provider training and rural water and sanitation systems construction.

Responsibilities

  • The ANSEP Intern will assist in general activities and support work in a particular chosen field at ANTHC.
  • I nterns should perform duties that strengthen their knowledge and experience in the field of their internship.
  • Intern work should be meaningful to the intern’s development as well as valuable to the organization.
  • I ntern will assist specific teams with particular duties as required.
  • Duties will vary from department to department.
  • Intern will be under close supervision and will be responsible for completion of assignments both independently and in coordination with team members.
  • P erforms other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS K nowledge of math (including calculus), natural sciences (including chemistry, physics, etc.), and applied sciences (mechanics, dynamics, etc.). K nowledge of customer service concepts and practices. K nowledge of the Alaska Tribal Health System and the people it serves.

K nowledge of computers and comfortable with their use, familiarity with standard Microsoft office suite of applications. K nowledge of applicable computer system software programs and office equipment. K nowledge of general office or business etiquette.

S kill in strong communication, verbal and written. S kill in problem solving. S kill in managing own work and completing assignments on time.
