Position Summary
Under the direction/supervision of a registered nurse, this position performs a variety of clerical and receptionist duties for an assigned nursing unit. Assists in the transcribing and processing of physicians orders, maintains patient charts in an accurate manner and maintains adequate unit supplies.
Position Education/ Qualifications
- • High School graduate or G.E.D. certificate required CPI training required within 30 days of hire/transfer date.
Job Knowledge/Experience
- • Knowledge of medical terminology a must.
- Must have proficient organizational skills and computer skills. 6 months – 1-year continuous experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of proper telephone etiquette, and strong typing skills are highly desired.
Position Responsibilities
- • Performs clerical duties as assigned by the nurse or physician • Transcribes physicians' orders, and maintains chart records and other files. • Answers phones and routes calls to the appropriate parties • Uses resources in an efficient and cost effective manner. •
- Maintains and promotes a team spirit through active cooperation and collaboration. • Assures that patient equipment and supplies are available and are in operating condition. • Orders and stocks the necessary equipment for the unit •
- Maintains knowledge of and conforms to Hospital policy/procedures. • Assists department manager with various clerical duties as directed • All duties described above are applicable in the following Adult, Adolescent, Geriatric, Childrens, State Civil, and State Forensic units

Customer Service
Provide excellent customer service to all DHR customers. All employees are required to attend the DHR C.A.R.E.S program which outlines the Customer Service Principals including: Commitment, Accountability, Respect, Excellence and Service.

Employees must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirement relative to his or her age.

- Working Conditions: The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise.
- There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
- The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.
