Summary Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing. Follows standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory safety, quality and regulatory requirements are met. Responsible for providing leadership during the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, laboratory department or multiple laboratories. Acts as a point of contact to technical staff, responds to questions and provides direction. Job Description Serves as a laboratory resource to other health care personnel and collaborates with other departments across the enterprise. Manage validations, proficiency testing and evaluation and quality assurance initiatives. Prepares documents and holds meetings relating to performance appraisals and corrective action. Responsible for interviewing and hiring of new staff. Will effectively interview, hire, counsel, discipline, and when needed, terminate employees. Develop and monitor appropriate indicators for quality and continuous improvement. Manage the operations of the departments including human resources, budget and finance, short and long range planning, legal and regulatory compliance. Responsible for providing professional and technical expertise. Responsible for implementing the vision and mission, plan and standards of the organization within the departments. Accountable for the laboratory environment. May assist in the collection and preparation of required budget information. Maintain a positive work environment for the laboratory staff and develop a team approach to optimize work flow, improve customer satisfaction and reduce errors. Collaborate with other departments across the enterprise. Responsible for providing leadership in the day to day operations of the laboratory. Work closely and collaborate with the department medical director/section director and other department leadership to oversee areas of responsibility. May have fiscal responsibility for areas of accountability. This position may require acting as a CLIA role of Qualified Laboratory Director, Technical Supervisor and Technical Consultant as needed. Must also qualify to perform duties delegated by the CLIA Laboratory Director. May be required to travel to other enterprise locations. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Associate degree in laboratory or biological sciences required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Two years of laboratory related experience required. Possess a national laboratory certification or laboratory specialty certification through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or be registry eligible. Certification required within six months of hire. If working in North Dakota (ND) and not a cytotechnologist or histotechnologist, must be licensed or have a provisional license, by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Certification is not required when clinical lab testing is not performed by the team. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
