 Department Details Summary Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing. Follows standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory safety, quality and regulatory requirements are met. Responsible for providing leadership of the day-to-day operations of the laboratory or laboratory department. Acts as a point of contact to technical staff and responds to questions and provides direction. Job Description Collect laboratory specimens, as needed. Process lab specimens and perform clinical laboratory testing, including manual and automated methods, in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures. Demonstrate skill in use of equipment relevant to position. Demonstrate critical and independent judgement in decision-making and problem-solving. Demonstrate personal commitment to the principles, values, and ethics of the organization to promote a positive work environment. Seek personal learning opportunities. Recognize safety hazards and comply with all safety practices and protocols. Assists in the training and competency assessment of staff. Serves as a laboratory resource to other health care personnel and collaborates with other departments across the enterprise. Participate in validations, proficiency testing and evaluation and quality assurance initiatives. Prepares documents and holds meetings relating to performance appraisals and corrective action. Responsible for interviewing and hiring of new staff. Serves as a liaison between technical staff and laboratory leadership, as well as communicating issues and concerns to appropriate personnel. May assist in the collection and preparation of required budget information. Maintain a positive work environment for the laboratory staff and develop a team approach to optimize work flow, improve customer satisfaction and reduce errors. Collaborate with other departments across the enterprise. This position may require acting as a CLIA role of Qualified Laboratory Director, Technical Supervisor and Technical Consultant as needed. Must also qualify to perform duties delegated by the CLIA Laboratory Director. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Associates degree in Laboratory or Biological Sciences required. Bachelor's degree preferred (*exception stated on next line). *If working in Iowa or Bismarck, North Dakota, a Bachelor's degree is required for this position. Two years of laboratory related experience required. Possess a national laboratory certification or laboratory specialty certification, for example: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Histology Technician (HT), etc. through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or be registry eligible and obtain certification within 12 months of hire into position. If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed or have a provisional license, by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. ND license regulations are not applicable for cytology or histology laboratories.
