Position Highlights
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
The Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant provides care and medical management to inpatients and outpatients of Community Memorial Hospital and Redfield Clinic. The PA’s are sponsored/supervised by MD’s on active staff. The Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant role is primarily medical and interdisciplinary management of patients and families through the continuum of care.
Provides services in compliance with the South Dakota Board of Nursing and the Nursing & Medical Staff Bylaws of Community Memorial Hospital.
Services and daily activities are to be provided in such a way that they support the mission and philosophies of Community Memorial Hospital.
SIGNIFICANT DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:
Admission History and Physical Discharge Summaries to Nursing Facilities. Progress Notes Write or give verbal orders for any of the following:
- Routine admission, Laboratory, Diagnostic studies
- Routine Diagnostic Radiology Examination
- General patient care measures, including diet, activity, intake & output, routine vital signs
- Pt care and treatment according to State/Federal Laws
- Medications may be prescribed as provided in state and federal law.
Counsel the patient as to preventative care, medical problems, exercise, and the use of prescribed treatments and drugs. May assist or initiate care in life-threatening emergency situations. May perform standard clinical procedures within Scope of Practice. Assist the supervising Physician in technical and surgical hospital procedures per hospital guidelines. In the absence of the supervising physician, the physician assistant is responsible to the alternate supervising physician(s) as designated. Written and dictated Progress, History and Physical, discharge notes, and medical orders will be reviewed and signed as directed in institution bylaws. Teaching of Family Practice residents, nursing staff and office personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS
Current certification from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistant and all associated requirements for medical education, logging of class time and retesting.
Education/Licensure:
Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the South Dakota Board of Nursing.
Interpersonal Skills:
Maturity and ability to establish good rapport with physicians, patients, public and
staff. Capacity to deal with severely ill patients. Maintains confidentiality.
Other:
Works under the following conditions: potential exposure to mechanical, chemical, electrical, and infectious environmental hazards.
Must be willing to relocate to Redfield, SD.
