A Brief Overview
Performs a variety diagnostic imaging techniques to detect and map radioactive drugs in the human body. Administers radioactive pharmaceuticals to patients, then monitors the characteristics and functions of tissues or organs in which they localize. Responsible for day to day operations of the Nuclear Department. Delegate specific responsibilities to the technical staff as needed.
What you will do
- Performs quality control tests on both radiopharmaceuticals and imaging equipment.
- Accurately operates Nuclear Medicine equipment and related computer data systems.
- Calculates and administers diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals to patients (IV or oral) and maintains accurate records of radionuclides (patient dose, receipt, and disposal of materials). Participates in patient care activities including, but not limited to organizing and maintaining patient schedule and drawing blood specimens for Nuclear Medicine.
- Monitors the day-to-day operations of Nuclear Medicine and hot lab equipment “Key operator” responsibility. Responsible for troubleshooting, procedural updates or specific Nuclear Medicine instrumentation or disciplines.
- Responsible for inventory control of specific laboratory instrumentation or disciplines.
- Provides at least one quality assurance project per year as pertains to specific Nuclear Medicine instrumentation or disciplines. Serves as “Super User” for all new equipment and software.
- Responsible to provide new employee orientation and on-the-job training.
- Assists in radionuclide Rx procedures and performs the necessary monitoring for these procedures.
- Acts as liaison between NCH physicians, Avera leadership, and the Nuclear Medicine Supervisor.
- Compiles the billing for the clinic and hospital and answers coding questions.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
- Certified Nuclear Medical Technologist (CNMT) - Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) Upon Hire
- 1-3 years Related experience and/or training
