Job Summary
The Coder-Outpatient is responsible for the ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT and modifier assignment of diagnosis and procedures of an outpatient visit.

Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:
• Assign and sequence diagnostic and procedural codes for patient care, utilizing ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
• Ensure accurate and compliant coding of medical services and procedures based on clinical documentation.
• Review patient records and physician documentation to validate coding accuracy and completeness.
• Work collaboratively with healthcare providers and staff to clarify and address documentation discrepancies.
• Maintain knowledge of current coding guidelines, insurance regulations, and compliance standards.
• Assist in audits and reviews to ensure coding accuracy and adherence to billing requirements.
• Resolve coding errors and respond to coding-related inquiries.
• Protect patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
Education and Experience-
• High School Diploma or GED
Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or an equivalent credential from an accredited organization
• Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire into the role
Skills and Abilities-
• Proficiency in ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software.
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
Interacts with medical staff and ancillary areas in order to facilitate a quality multidisciplinary approach to patient care
Physical Capabilities
Work is mostly sedentary, but walking and standing frequently is required.
Environmental/Working Conditions
Position is indoors and not prone to hazardous materials but may experience constant changing indoor temperatures. Remote work available at supervisor’s discretion
